Suction blister grafting is a method of tissue grafting in vitiligo surgery.

Blisters are raised over the donor area which is usually the thigh or arms under topical / local anesthesia. Once the blister is raised the epidermis is separated.

The recipient area is prepared by dermabrasion which removes the epidermis and the grafts are placed over the recipient site and secured with tissue glue.

Dressing is done for the donor and recipient area which is removed after 5-7 days.

The patient is advised to immobilize the affected part if necessary.

In case of lips, liquid diet is advised for the first two days post procedure with restriction of movements, talking or brushing teeth.

Post surgery the pigmentation is not immediate. The graft falls off from the recipient site within 5-10days. Patients are advised to start phototherapy usually after 3 weeks which aids in the spread of the pigment. The pigmentation is expected to start around 3-4 weeks and the area is expected to repigment completely within 3-6 months.
