Other surgical procedures for vitiligo are Punch Grafting, Split-Thickness Skin Grafting and Suction Blister Epidermal Grafting. 


Compared to these methods, Melanocyte Transplantation has the distinct advantages of requiring a small piece of donor skin (about 1/4th to 1/10th the size of recipient patches) and resulting in better colour match than other methods by providing pigmentation similar to that of surrounding skin.

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia where the skin operated upon is temporarily rendered sensation-less and no/minimal pain is felt during the procedure itself. 

No. Repigmentation starts after 3 weeks and completes by 4-10 months depending on site and area of vitiligo.

After the procedure, the white patches are covered with dressings for seven days. After seven days of healing, the operated area usually appears red. As the redness subsides, it appears white (as before the surgery). With suitable environment, nourishment and stimulation, the newly placed melanocytes start to produce pigment which eventually covers the whole patch. Pigmentation after a melanocyte transplantation typically starts appearing after few weeks. Within a span of four to six months, usually, we expect good coverage of the lesion with pigment. You may be advised certain medicated creams or phototherapy (NB-UVB) after 2-3 weeks of surgery to stimulate melanocytes.
Immobilisation of operated area is mandatory for 48 hours. 

Work does not involve much movement of operated area can be resumed after 48 hours.

Full movements can be resumed after 7 days of surgery.

Chemical peels are mild acids derived from organic sources. These acids when applied over skin for a recommended period of time; have ability to penetrate to deeper layers of skin. Once inside the deeper structures these peels have ability to improve pigmentation problems and to produce textural changes, thus rejuvenate skin.

  1. It is better if the skin can be prepared first with night time application of retinoic acid based creams 2 to 3 weeks prior to peeling. 
  2. Once skin is primed, right chemical peel is chosen for your skin type.
  3. After degreasing the skin with acetone, the chemical peel is applied over your face for a specified period of time or till the appearance of areas of redness/frosting over face, which is considered the end point.
  4. The peel is neutralized with neutralizing solution, followed by application of soothing gel and finally a sunscreen over the face.

✔️ There is mild stinging sensation during and after peeling. 

✔️ You will notice redness and there is peeling of skin over 4-7 days. This should subside with a new and fresh looking skin in 14-21 days. 

✔️ Generally, the duration of peeling will depend on the peel used and the concentration of the peel. Your Dermatologist will advise you appropriately. 

✔️ The procedure can be repeated every 2 weeks for superficial peeling and 4-6 weeks for deep peeling.

Usually chemical peel is followed by microscopic shedding of dead cells meaning there won’t be any visible changes over the face. Sometimes there is visible peeling of fine layers of skin which lasts for 3 to 7 days.
Results can be maintained for long time only if you follow all the necessary precautions and instructions as advised by the dermatologist. 
It is best to avoid any salon procedures like bleaching and facials minimum 7-10 days before and 7-10 days after the session of chemical peel. However it's best to avoid such procedures with chemical peels.
1. Avoid direct sun-exposure for at least 48hrs after peeling
2. Use sunscreens before going out and every 2-3hrs thereafter.
3. Don’t use make-up immediately after peels: It is often best to do peels near weekend, so you can rest your skin without any make-up over the weekend.
4. Avoid exercise for 12hrs after peel, to prevent excessive sweating.
5. Do not shave for 24hrs after peel.

In fact, we encourage it and prescribe PRP therapy as a compliment to a non-surgical approach for those patients who are not eligible for surgery or who want to delay hair restoration surgery. We recommend PRP therapy along with Minoxidil and DHT blockers or for those patients who can’t tolerate or have side effects with these medications.

Laser hair reduction is a process that needs due care both on the part of the technician/doctor as well as on the part of the patient.

The following care check-list is highly recommended:-

  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 4-6 weeks prior and post the procedure.

This is an important question asked by all patients. Well the answer is not so simple. 

The outcome of treatment depends on many factors like family history, extent of disease, types of vitiligo and other associated autoimmune conditions. 

The result may vary from person to person. 

It all depends on the severity of disease. If the the progress of disease is not too much, there are chances of cure of this condition.

Activity of vitiligo depends on one's immunity. So person can develop vitiligo after cure if his/her autoimmunity back fires again.
Person having vitiligo in any family member increases the chances of him/her getting vitiligo but its not true in every case.

There is no particular pattern of inheritance.

Genetic component in vitiligo is weak and quite inconsistent.

Mild pain is felt for few seconds while giving Local Anesthesia, then no pain is felt during entire procedure. 
There are no major side effects of the procedure. Every process carries some form of risk. However, earlobe repair is a very safe process. 

1. The most common is poor scarring due to poor healing, the creation of a notch where the skin meets and Infection. Revisions can always be done. 
2. One can get Infection at site of ear lobe repair if site is repeated touched and home care advise given by doctor not followed properly.
3. Tear can open up if site is repeated touched and home care advise given by doctor not followed properly.

It should be noted that smokers tend to heal poorly and every effort should be made to evade nicotine goods for at least four weeks before & after the process to improve the scar.

Following Home care instructions MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED after ear lobe repair.


1. Do not touch ear lobe repaired site unnecessarily. Don’t allow water contact for 2 days.

2. Get your dressings changed regularly by doctor till stitches are removed.

3. Take proper antibiotics and painkiller to avoid infection and discomfort as prescribed by dermatologist.

3. Do not sleep on sides. Try to sleep straight if possible for few days.

4. Follow all instructions given by doctor.

5. Review after 7 days to remove suture.

6. Consult your doctor as early as possible if any bleeding, pain, pus develops.

Ideally one should wait for at-least 3 months if you want to pierce exactly at previous site of tear.
If possible one should get pierced nearby the site of previous tear.

Piercing at nearby site can be done anytime.
